Portfolio Review Process

To certify in the Apparel Design option, you must complete a portfolio review and application process. The application and portfolio must be submitted during the spring semester of your sophomore year. Certification into the apparel design program is competitive, enrollment is limited, and decisions are final.

All Apparel Design option courses must be completed in recommended sequence. Refer to the required courses for the Apparel Design option for more information.

Eligibility of Applicants

To certify in the Apparel Design option you must have a 2.70 cumulative GPA from a minimum of 40 completed credit hours from WSU or a combination of 40 or more transfer credit hours. Students must receive a C or better grade in all AMT courses.

Once you have completed the portfolio review and application process, your materials will be reviewed. If you are certified into the program, you will become eligible to enroll in the following courses: AMT 311, 312, 314, 318, 410, 411, 412, 413 and 492. Since Apparel Design courses within the option are taught only once per semester per year, you must complete the courses in sequence. If you drop or fail a course, then you will be out of sequence. Space in subsequent studio classes will not be guaranteed and graduation can be delayed for up to a year or more.

You must successfully complete the following courses before beginning the fall semester after your portfolio review: FA 110, AMT 108, 208, 210, 211 and 212. If you don’t complete these courses prior to the beginning of the fall semester following your portfolio review, you will not be certified into the Apparel Design option and will need to resubmit your portfolio the following year. If you have not completed these courses prior to the portfolio review and application, you should include a ‘plan’ of how you will complete them by the following fall semester.
