Choose your Major

We offer majors in Apparel Design or Merchandising. Each option includes the program’s core courses. You can individualize your expertise by exploring minors and supporting work in business administration, marketing, international business, entrepreneurship, communication or fine arts.

Apparel Design Option

With this major, you will focus on the process of apparel design, from concept to the end user. Courses cover aesthetics, illustration, computer-aided design, pattern making, draping, sewing, fit, and product assembly. You’ll have an opportunity to create a design collection and showcase your work at the Annual AMDT Fashion Show during the WSU family weekend in Spring.

Merchandising Option

With this major, you will learn the process for forecasting, planning, buying, and selling of merchandise in either manufacturing, trade or retail organizations. You will gain understanding in all aspects of the industry. Course work explores fashion forecasting, product development, visual merchandising, merchandising strategies, consumer behavior, planning and buying strategies, marketing, retail management, and international business.
