Overview

Growth in this program has been extremely strong over the past seven years reflecting both student enthusiasm for the program quality and a fast growing industry demand for qualified graduates. With Seattle being ranked third in the nation in the apparel and textile industry productivity suggests that demand is stable and growing.

Annual field trips to Seattle and New York provide an additional opportunity to tour components of the apparel and textile industry. This results in internship sites, mentoring relationships, and ongoing network with partners in the industry. An active departmental Advisory Board composed of business and industry leaders from throughout the Pacific Northwest participate in ongoing program development and allows students an opportunity to meet with textile and apparel executives on campus.

The Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles has an excellent reputation among prospective employers making our graduates in high demand by the industry.

Entry level positions in store or corporate environments for our graduates include: retail buyer, product merchandiser, assistant designer, visual merchandising manager, costume designer, production sourcing manager and department manager. They are employed by a variety of companies including: Nordstrom, Gap Kids, Ex Officio, Foreign Sources, Blue Stock Textile Designer, Old Navy, Northern Reflections, Russ Berrie and Company, Panache and Ann Taylor.
